Hi. This video was taken in January 2022 and it was frozen for about 8 weeks in total I think. In Jan 2023 I don't think the lake froze enough to skate on but I'm hoping we have another colder Jan next year. (2024)

Yes, all slopes open and lifts running. But that was in mid-season 2022.

Hey Otto. Thanks for your comment. I left SA a few years ago and also miss it a lot. But I remember this day. There's a lot of dodgy stuff that happened (even on this very day) at Gold Reef. I obviously made a video about the good things, but I remember the bad things too. This video, with all it's music and energy, doesn't really represent the experience as I truly remember it.

@@ShawnVerne i left in 94 when I was 10. Didnt understand the changes and why so. Till today I find it wierd. Went from wrong to hell there sad but maybe few generation and it will be again ok.who know. I live in Czech so cold it makes me want to go back just to warm up,....:-D when I was a kid we been on Gold reef very often my Last visit there was in 2017 it didnt look bad at all very happy and full of people there. But yeah visiting isnt the same like living there.

@@OASTEPANEK South Africa is still a lekker place to live, especially if you are an outgoing person who travels. I think it's the affordable cost of living and abundance of things to do and see around every corner for me. Middle class South Africans generally don't appreciate the disposable income and lifestyle one enjoys here. You don't get it easily in western countries. You just need to be streetwise and know the areas and you can live a good life here.

It was a long time ago, but Bitcoin was about $1000. Crazy right! So I guess the coffee was around $3 back then. I don't even want to do the math. Lol

@@ShawnVerne Thanks for the answer. 3$ for a small cup of coffee? ... seems an expensive price. Have you use any cryptos recently, to buy something of every day life, like coffee? It is interesting, to learn how much it costs, with fees etc.
